Scrying. Gateway to the Mind.

Scrying is the proper name name for "gazing" as into a crystal ball. Mirrors, stones, water, oil and other media have also been used by different people and cultures throughout history. Sometimes sacred or rare things are preferred, however, perfectly mundane objects work just as well. It is a common misconception that anything "magical" must be costly, such as crystal balls made out of solid pieces of perfectly clear quartz. A glass picture frame with high gloss black paint on the back works perfectly well if painted carefully so now flaws or bubbles form. With practice, a simple glass of tap water works. Still, something specifically dedicated to scrying is best to begin with until you get the hang of it and, if one medium doesn't seem to do it for you, move on to another.

Scrying is commonly used for divination though this is not its sole function and no gift of sight is needed as impressions may come in any form including sounds or voices, flashes of "knowing" insight, physical or emotional feelings, even smells, tastes and long forgotten memories. Keeping a journal of any and all impressions, even if in the form of brief notes, will help you to better recall and understand your impressions and their meaning. Though it can certainly seem to reveal pertinent information about the past or even the future the real truth behind it is more fascinating than the mysticism.

What scrying actually does is bridge the right-brain/left-brain gap and strengthen the connection. 10 minutes or more of scrying per day imparts a marked increase in memory, better dream recall, greater peace and serenity in waking life and heightened psychic awareness. It does this with a simple trick of the mind. You give yourself something to look at (I prefer black mirrors for starters because they do not show much in the way of clear reflections) which presents no immediately discernable input for the conscious mind to process. The points is to focus the eye on something that cannot be focused on. Gazing "through" the surface in a manner similar to those hidden 3d image posters is most effective. Because the conscious mind has nothing to process, but the eye insists something must be there, the SUBconscious steps in to fill the void. This forms a literal bridge between brain hemispheres and, in turn, between the conscious and subconscious mind.

Most people tend to favor either right or left brain thinking and  you can often tell by which hand is dominant. Right handed people tend to be LEFT brain dominant, meaning they favor logic, calculation, and pragmatism. Left handed people tend to be RIGHT brain dominant, meaning they favor abstracts and tend to be more emotional and artistic. By approaching problems from both angles new perspectives can be revealed. Likewise, most everyone today tends to favor the conscious over the subconscious. We regard things like dreams and "psychic impressions" as mysterious and mystical. The truth of it is that these are a normal part of our brain function which stem from our subconscious mind. We have been so brow-beaten into disregarding this aspect of our intellectual process that when we tap back into it and begin to understand the information it presents us with it seems like some kind of super power. Creativity plus practicality, the obvious and the subtle, that is what we get by using our whole brain. This sort of "bi-level" thinking is the key to fully harnessing the full potential of your mind in waking life. Scrying as a means of achieving that.

Just a few minutes a day is all you need. Keep at it and so many things will improve. Focus and insight, ability to deal with stress, mental agility and performance under pressure, creative solutions and foresight all benefit through scrying practice. Don't expect mind blowing visual results at first. Simply gaze and let your consciousness roam. Allow all thoughts and impressions come and go as they will. Do not TRY and focus on anything in particular. Let your mind be as an open stream and your thoughts as free flowing waters. This is essential because it is the way subconscious thought is processed. Ever notice how the more you struggle to remember a dream the more it eludes you even though you know you remembered every detail when you had just woken up? Conscious thought is based on focus and effort but subconscious thought is dependent on receptiveness. In time, you may become more open to psychic impressions and "hunches" that turn out to be true. This is the result of your receptivity to background information not normally processed by the conscious mind. If you receive prophetic visions on your first try, good for you! Just remember that the real results are found in the time between sessions. when you practice scrying you are literally creating new neural pathways allowing information to pass more effectively.
